Michelle Fleming of The Bay School of Art and Brenda Beattie have joined creative forces to offer an exciting, fine Art and Music Summer Camp for five to twelve year old children. Nurture your child’s creativity and enrich their experience through an immersion in art and music.
MUSIC: Your child will have fun singing, playing percussion instruments, and participating in eurhythmics. Vocal technique will be fostered through singing games, rounds and two-part harmony. Skills in performing beat and rhythm on percussion instruments will be developed so that students will graduate from imitation to improvisation. While preparing for the performance, children will explore their own creative expression in a non-competitive atmosphere encouraging respect and appreciation for each other.
ART: Your child will experience a variety of fine art materials and techniques to support their visual expression and confidence as a young artist. Students will receive instruction in using traditional mediums such as pencil, charcoal, pastels, acrylic paint and water colour. All ages will learn the fundamentals of creating a drawing and painting on both paper and canvas. We will go outside with our sketchbooks daily for fresh air, sunshine and to draw the natural world around us.
During each week at Art and Music Summer Camp, various themes and cultures are explored. Changes are made each year to the material used in reoccurring themes however some art projects and performance songs are repeated. This allows students to enrich their experience at Art and Music Summer Camp through awareness of increased skill development, and to gain confidence as both an artist and a musician.
The children’s musical and artistic talents will culminate in a magical outdoor performance and art exhibit on Friday at 3:00 pm. Please bring family and friends, as well as a lawn chair.
Students are required to bring: a water bottle, sunscreen, a snack and lunch, and are encouraged to wear/bring clothes for messy art projects and variable weather. Fresh fruit is provided everday at the camp.
