The focus of the course will be on ensuring students understand the key elements and principles of design: composition, value/contrast/depth, colour theory and the basics of building a successful painting from photographic sources or still life (oil or acrylic). In addition, students will be encouraged to develop an artistic language in order to facilitate critiquing and problem solving of their own work and that of their fellow students.
